AR-15 FRT Troubleshooting Guide
Bursts or Inconsistent FRT Function
Symptoms:
- Works normally in semi-auto
- Inconsistent or bursts during rapid fire
Cause:
Bolt speed and timing issues.
Fixes:
- Use heavier buffer (H2, H3, or heavier)
- Add buffer spacer to reduce over-travel
- Reduce gas if using adjustable gas block
- Lubricate BCG rails, cam pin, and trigger surfaces
- Use quality magazines
- Allow brief break-in period
?
Trigger Locked in FRT Mode
Symptoms:
- Works in semi-auto
- Trigger unresponsive in FRT mode
Cause:
BCG compatibility or mechanical clearance.
Fixes:
- Use full-auto profile bolt carrier group
- Verify trigger and cam clear properly
- Ensure selector fully engages each position
- Use factory selector spring and detent
- Confirm reset lever moves freely
?
Charging Handle Stiff or Bolt Binding
Symptoms:
- Rough charging handle
- Bolt does not cycle smoothly
Cause:
Clearance interference or tight tolerances.
Fixes:
- Lightly tune reset lever only if contact exists
- Confirm BCG cycles freely
- Inspect upper receiver for interference
- Lubricate all contact surfaces
?
Loose or Inconsistent Selector
Symptoms:
- Selector feels loose or lacks positive click
Cause:
Weak spring tension or worn components.
Fixes:
- Verify proper detent and spring installation
- Do not modify selector spring
- Replace worn selector or detent
?
Light Strikes or Failure to Fire
Symptoms:
- Hammer drops but round does not fire
- Weak primer strikes
Cause:
Bolt timing, bolt bounce, or hammer spring issues.
Fixes:
